{"id":4321,"date":"2024-08-18T12:11:57","date_gmt":"2024-08-18T12:11:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theworldinsight.com.au\/?p=4321"},"modified":"2024-08-18T12:11:57","modified_gmt":"2024-08-18T12:11:57","slug":"dutton-asylum-seekers-from-gaza-shouldnt-be-let-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theworldinsight.com.au\/?p=4321","title":{"rendered":"Dutton: Asylum seekers from Gaza shouldn\u2019t be let in"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-article-body\">Palestinians fleeing war-torn Gaza shouldn\u2019t be allowed into Australia, Peter Dutton says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-article-body\">The coalition has called on the Albanese government to strengthen security checks when granting visas to Palestinians, to prevent Hamas supporters entering the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-article-body\">ASIO director-general Mike Burgess said on Sunday that Palestinians who had expressed rhetorical support for the listed terror group wouldn\u2019t automatically be barred.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-article-body\">The opposition leader said Australians would be shocked that people being brought in from a war zone would not undergo a security check by ASIO.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-article-body\">\u201cI don\u2019t think people should be coming in from that war zone at all at the moment, it\u2019s not prudent to do so, and I think it puts our national our national security at risk,\u201d Mr Dutton told Sky News.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-article-body\">\u201cIf people are coming in from that war zone, and we\u2019re uncertain about identity or their allegiances, Hamas is a listed terrorist organisation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-article-body\">\u201cThey\u2019ve just committed an atrocity against the Jewish people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-article-body\">Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Dutton was always trying to divide people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-article-body\">\u201cWe take our advice from the director-general of ASIO and the security agencies, not from someone always looking for a fight, always looking for division,\u201d he told ABC News.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-article-body\">About 1200 Israelis were killed when Hamas launched its October 7 attack and almost 40,000 Palestinians have been killed due to Israel\u2019s military action in Gaza in response to the Hamas attack.<\/p>\n<div class=\"clear-both my-5 block border-y border-grey-300 py-4\">\n<div class=\"w-full\" data-ad-id=\"inline-02\">\n<div class=\"flex w-full items-center justify-center h-auto\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-inline-02\">\n<div id=\"gpt_unit_\/22160690092\/thenewdaily\/desktop-inline-02_0\" data-google-query-id=\"CNHupYKJ9ocDFQQFgwMdjtYBFQ\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Palestinians fleeing war-torn Gaza shouldn\u2019t be allowed into Australia, Peter Dutton says.
